You might have heard of Greenhouse gases and their effects. We often read in our textbook and newspapers how these gases heat up our atmosphere and cause global warming. To see how this really works, you can do a simple experiment to understand the greenhouse effect a little better!
Things you’ll need:
- 2 glass jars
- 1 clear plastic bag
- Some ice cubes
How to do it:
- Put the same amount of ice in both jars.
- Carefully wrap one of the jars with the bag and tie it closed making sure no air escapes from the inside.
- Put both the jars in the sun for a while and observe.
The ice will start to melt, but if you pay close attention you’ll see that the ice within the plastic bag melts a little quicker. That means that the temperature within this jar is higher. If you don’t believe your eyes you can even check with the thermometer.
Why do you think this happens?
